A skateboarder is in a serious condition after falling on to a concrete driveway in Shellharbour.

Police believe the 14-year-old girl was riding her skateboard without a helmet on Town St about 5pm yesterday when she hit a gutter and fell head first on to the driveway.

She was taken to Wollongong Hospital suffering a fractured skull before being transferred to Randwick Children’s Hospital for further care.

Police said the accident was a timely reminder to the community about the importance of wearing skate helmets when riding bikes, skateboards or scooters.
